ColorOS 7.2

OPPO Reno 4 Review ColorOS 7.2

The operating system composed by OPPO itself, ColorOS, has now reached version 7.2. This software update focuses more on artificial intelligence. Reno4 is the only OPPO smartphone to adopt ColorOS 7.2, at least for now.

Based on Android 10, various new features are presented in ColorOS 7.2, starting from Super Power Saving Mode, Super Night-Time Standby, Icon Pull Down gesture, Quick Return Bubble, Gravity Wallpaper, and OPPO LAB.

Not to forget, ColorOS also comes with support for the unique Dark Mode feature, especially for some third-party applications that don’t yet get support for this feature.

Other features embedded in ColorOS 7.2 in the AON Smart Sensor menu include Smart Spying Prevention, Smart Air Control, Smart Always-on Display. Here’s a summary of these features.

• AON Smart Sensor

OPPO decided to apply an AI-enhanced smart sensor to the Smart Spying Prevention feature, which is built using a low-power sensor and a combination of intelligent recognition algorithms.

Sensors can not only be used in privacy protection, but can also extend the functionality of the Smart AirControl, Smart Rotation, and Smart Always On features.

• Smart Spying Prevention

When Reno4 receives a message, a smart sensor that has been enhanced with an artificial intelligence function on a smartphone can identify only the owner of the phone who is allowed to open the screen.

Otherwise, notification content will be hidden to protect user privacy. To be more specific, this privacy prevention algorithm is built in harmony with the hardware in the form of a sophisticated sensor. This sensor will automatically analyze several faces in various circumstances and scales.

If only 1 (one) face is detected, the main camera will be turned on to identify the owner’s face; if yes, all messages are displayed.

If the sensor detects that more than one person (or no people) is facing the screen, the notification will still be displayed but the content will not be displayed.

• Smart Air Control

Reno4 is the first OPPO smartphone to present full-screen gestures to this series. Smart AirControl allows users to interact with the Reno4 device without touching the screen.

With this feature, users can scroll the screen page both up and down the page on several popular applications such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

This feature also allows users to answer phone calls without touching the screen, which is very useful in pandemic situations such as today to reduce the intensity of contact with the screen.

• Smart Always On Display

OPPO implements functions that will enhance the user experience, such as “Smart Always On Display”. This feature can identify the face of the user who is constantly observing the device screen, so the screen won’t turn off.

This feature makes Reno4 smarter and provides a better user experience. At the software level, a special illumination algorithm will make the sensor perform better in low light.

Even when the lighting level is lower than 1 lux, the Smart Sensor with artificial intelligence enhancements can function very well.

OPPO Reno4 Smart AON Sensor

Besides the AON Smart Sensor, ColorOS 7.2 also brings some new features that are also useful, including:

• AI APP Preloading

Through the AI algorithm, ColorOS intelligently predicts what applications the user will use and then loads them, so they can open faster. With AI APP Preloading, the longer the user uses the device, the faster the artificial intelligence will learn the user’s habits.

With AI APP Preloading, apps open faster than ever which greatly increases efficiency. Also, AI APP Preloading has Zero battery consumption, users will get a faster phone without additional battery consumption.

Anti-Fragmentation Engine

Independently developed by OPPO, the Anti-Fragmentation Engine uses a combination of steps to optimize physical and virtual memory fragmentation. Ensures a smooth operating system experience without lag, even after using it for a long time.

Super Power Saving Mode

This feature takes advantage of a system-wide approach (such as CPU frequency adjustment and backlight adjustment) and adjusts power savings for individual applications. There are 6 (six) applications that can be displayed on the Home screen in Super Power Saving Mode.

Phone, Message, and Clock applications will be included by default, but you can replace them with other applications. When your phone battery drops to 10% and 5%, a pop-up message will appear asking the user to activate Super Power Saving mode.

With this feature, OPPO Reno4 users can send WhatsApp messages for 1.5 hours and call for more than 1 hour with only a 5% battery.

Super Night-Time Standby

Designed to learn about users’ sleeping habits, this feature optimizes battery life by only 2% throughout the night, for about 8 hours.

Pull Down Gesture Icon

The best solution in the industry to open hard-to-reach apps on the Home screen when using your phone with one hand. When you swipe upwards, on the left or right edge of the Home screen, the app icon will shrink to each corner.

Furthermore, with the thumb still on the screen, the user can move the application icon and release it to open the application.

Quick Return Bubble

Is a floating icon bubble that displays information from games running in the background. For example, when a user waits for a respawn in a game, they can switch to another screen while still seeing the respawn time in the bubble.

When the user wants to respawn, they can tap the bubble to return to the game. Currently supported games: Mobile Legends, Mobile PUBG, Mobile Lite PUBG in India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, AOV in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand.

Gravity Wallpaper

The wallpaper on the Home screen can change dynamically depending on how the user holds the device. The wallpaper can move as if it was pulled by gravity.

OPPO Reno4 Review For Creative Creators

OPPO LAB is a platform where OPPO software engineers and users can work together to create innovative features together. Users can try these features before they are officially released.
